"Adobe Flash Player (labeled Shockwave Flash in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome) is discontinued computer software for content created on the Adobe Flash platform. Flash Player is capable of viewing multimedia contents, executing rich Internet applications, and streaming audio and video. In addition, Flash Player can run from a web browser as a browser plug-in or on supported mobile devices. Flash Player was created by Macromedia and has been developed and distributed by Adobe Systems since Adobe acquired Macromedia in 2005. Flash Player was distributed as freeware. It was discontinued on December 31, 2020, its download page disappeared on January 2, 2021, and a built-in time bomb on versions newer than 32.0.0.371 displays a static icon with an information page link starting from January 12, 2021. Flash Player ran SWF files that could be created by Adobe Flash Professional, Adobe Flash Builder or by third party tools such as FlashDevelop. Flash Player supported vector graphics, 3D graphics, embedded audio, video and raster graphics, and a scripting language called ActionScript. ActionScript is based on ECMAScript (similar to JavaScript) and supports object-oriented code. Flash Player was distributed free of charge and its plug-in versions are available for every major web browser and operating system. Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 11, in Windows 8 and later, and Microsoft Edge came bundled with a sandboxed Adobe Flash plug-in. Flash Player once had a large user base, and was a common format for web games, animations, and graphical user interface (GUI) elements embedded in web pages. However, the most popular use of Flash among the 10-20 age group was for Flash games. Adobe stated in 2013 that more than 400 million out of over 1 billion connected desktops update to the new version of Flash Player within six weeks of release. However, Flash Player has become increasingly criticized for its performance, consumption of battery on mobile devices, the number of security vulnerabilities that had been discovered in the software, and its closed platform nature. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was highly critical of Flash Player, having published an open letter detailing Apple's reasoning for not supporting Flash on its iOS device family. Its usage has also waned because of modern web standards that allow some of Flash's use cases to be fulfilled without third-party plugins. In July 2017, Adobe announced that it would end support for Flash Player on December 31, 2020, and continued to encourage the use of open HTML5 standards in place of Flash. The announcement was coordinated with Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and Mozilla. All major web browsers planned to officially remove Adobe Flash Player on December 31, 2020, and Microsoft removed it from the Windows OS entirely in January 2021 via Windows Update. In October 2020, Microsoft released a preview for the Windows 10 and 8.1 update which removes Adobe Flash component from IE (named KB4577586). Apple’s latest MacOS, Big Sur, which was released November 12, 2020, removed software compatibility for Adobe Flash Player. As of January 12, 2021, content is blocked from running on Flash (excluding sites in mainland China which have obtained a commercial license to continue using Flash content via the China-specific variant of Flash), but it is possible to avoid this by using an older version of Flash Player, or editing the Flash Player files. After that date, Flash content is also playable with either an emulator like the one developed by the Internet Archive, or Ruffle, or by unofficial software such as Blue Maxima's Flashpoint."@en . "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (meaning “the most beautiful villages of France”) is an independent association created in 1982 for the promotion of the tourist appeal of small rural villages with a rich cultural heritage. As of September 2016, it numbers 156 member villages (independent communes or part of a communauté de communes). Membership requires meeting certain selection criteria and offers a strategy for development and promotion to tourists. The three initial selection criteria are the rural nature of the village (a population of less than 2,000 inhabitants), the presence of at least two national heritage sites (sites classés or monuments historiques) and local support in the form of a vote by the council. Each village must pay an annual fee to the association and the mayor must sign the association's Quality Charter. If the village fails to meet the requirements of the charter it may be excluded. The association claims membership can bring a rise of between 10 and 50% in visitor numbers. The southern departments of the Dordogne and Aveyron have the most number of member villages, with ten in each. They are followed by Vaucluse, with seven, and Lot, with six. Following the success of the French certification, similar associations have been formed in Wallonia (Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie), Quebec (Les Plus Beaux Villages du Québec), Italy (I Borghi più belli d’Italia), Spain () and Japan (日本で最も美しい村」連合 Nihon de mottomo utsukushii mura rengō)."@en . .
